Natural fertilizer for seedlings, grapes and houseplants

Garden plants

Hello, dear friends - summer residents and gardeners!
The time has already come when you can sow some vegetable and flower crops for seedlings, and I am sure that many gardeners, like me, have already taken up their favorite business - germinating seeds and sowing them for seedlings, and since soon we will be thinking, how to feed the plants, I decided to remind you of one natural fertilizer, on the basis of which you can make an excellent feeding not only for seedlings, but also for indoor plants.
So, today we will talk about wood ash.

Wood ash as fertilizer

Chemical composition

Wood ash is not for nothing considered a storehouse of useful substances, and this is true: it contains many macro- and microelements that plants need for normal growth and development.

It contains calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, iron, sulfur, silicon, boron and many other elements. In wood ash, they are in a form that is easily accessible to plants, that is, after applying the ash feeding, they will very quickly be able to get exactly those nutrients that they need at the moment.

Action of wood ash

Another useful property of ash is the ability to lime acidic soil. This is especially important for seedlings of cabbage, onions, cucumbers and other plants that do not like soils with high acidity.

Wood ash treatment is a good prevention against such a fungal disease as black leg: you just need to sprinkle the sifted ash on the soil surface in the seedling container, and soil treatment should be started already at the stage of the appearance of cotyledon leaves.

From the ashes, I prepare an excellent top dressing for seedlings and indoor plants: I pour two tablespoons of ash with two liters of boiling water and leave for two days. With the resulting extract, I water all the plants on pre-moistened soil 1 time in 2-3 weeks. Such organic feeding can replace mineral potassium-phosphorus fertilizer, and plants respond very well to it.

I also add ash to the garden soil in the beds when planting seedlings in the beds. I especially recommend adding it under red cabbage seedlings, as it is a good prevention of keela. When planting grapes, I also add ash to the pit. In addition, whenever possible, I sprinkle this fertilizer under mature grape bushes.

Many friends ask me how I feed my vine in this way, and taking this opportunity, I want to tell everyone that wood ash is the only fertilizer for my grapes, which I annually apply under the bushes. I am very pleased with the result.

Today I once again reminded you about the benefits of wood ash for seedlings and adult plants. Do not forget about this organic fertilizer, which contains almost all the substances necessary for plants.

I wish everyone excellent harvests, health and good mood.

Vermicompost is necessary for any garden. It is also called vermicompost. In essence, it is a product of processing a wide variety of organic materials (for example, manure, leaf litter, bird droppings, sawdust, straw, plant tops, etc.) by earthworms with the participation of fungi and bacteria.

Organic vermicompost should not be confused with manure, because manure may contain pathogens, helminth eggs, and weed seeds, which, when manure is introduced into the soil, can germinate or begin to live. The fertilizer we are describing does not have such problems.

This is an excellent fertilizer that does not require any other additional composting, it does not have an unpleasant odor, and at the same time it is usually many times more effective than conventional organic fertilizers, even considering that the dosage of its application is usually noticeably lower.

A safe natural fertilizer is able to significantly improve the soil, in addition to everything else, it is ideally combined with other organic additives, which ultimately leads to an improvement in the palatability of fruits and berries and even to an increase in plant immunity in relation to both abiotic and biotic environmental factors.

  • The basis is very complex natural organic substances called humic acids, as well as their salts, called humates, which in themselves are excellent safe growth stimulants.
  • Contains a full range of natural substances, rich in both macro- and microelements in a form absolutely accessible to plants.

Thanks to biohumus, your seeds will germinate faster, the seedlings will be healthier, and its root system will be as well developed as possible, the soil will be replenished with nutrients and its structure will improve, the acidity of the soil will decrease, the immunity will increase and the aboveground mass of plants will be strengthened, flowering will be more active, the ripening of fruits will accelerate and their productivity will increase.

This is a very convenient and fairly cheap organic fertilizer with a very rich composition, which, without a doubt, is a source of a variety of microelements for plants, while improving the structure of the soil.

Vermicompost is a wonderful fertilizer also because it complies with the new law on organic products, which came into force on January 1, 2020.

According to this law, a manufacturer of vegetable products can use the image of the mark of Russian organic products after receiving a special certificate of conformity, and it will only be possible to obtain it if the products are grown without the use of chemicals.

Fertilizers "Planter" (10)

The "Plantafol" fertilizer range is an effective water-soluble fertilizer-regulator with microelements in the form of chelates. It improves the vegetation of plants, ensures the active development of the ovary, while maintaining the uniform development of fruits, contributes to an increase in crop yields, and significantly increases the quality characteristics of the crop. In combination with root dressing, it promotes the development of plants during unfavorable weather conditions (frost, excess moisture, etc.). Fertilizers "Plantafol" are represented by the following names: ovary, beginning of vegetation, fruit growth, fruit ripening, flowering, budding. Packaging - 25 g.

Eggshells are good for plants because they contain all the minerals they need. It is easy to digest and has a positive effect on plant growth, greenery and root crops formation.

The use of eggshells as fertilizer in the vegetable garden and in the garden

Recycled chicken shells, when dropped into the ground, make them more fertile and lighter.

There are several ways to use natural calcium fertilizer in the garden:

  1. Egg flour. When sowing, sprinkle the seeds with it and mulch. They are added to the ground in 1-2 items / 1 sq. m. The volume of the additive is increased to 1 kg / sq. m., if the substrate is highly acidic (for lightness of the soil). Also, the tool is used to protect against garden pests and diseases.
  2. Infusion. The shells of 5-6 eggs are poured with water and infused until a characteristic odor appears. The diluted composition is watered with garden crops at the root.
  3. Use of husk. To deoxidize the soil and remove excess water, large pieces of husk are placed on the bottom of the pot / container. Do this for better drainage of seedlings and houseplants.

The shell is brought into the ground from early spring to late autumn.

Fertilizing eggshells of vegetable crops

Ground egg waste is added when planting potatoes, onions and carrots.

Infusion is poured over seedlings of eggplants, peppers and root crops. The ratio of solution and water is 1: 3.

The calcium-containing fertilizer will please tomatoes and cucumbers.

Methods for introducing eggshells for tomatoes:

  • introduction of a substance into a substrate
  • solution
  • sowing seeds in shell
  • drainage
  • sprinkling tomato greens for disease prevention.

During the season, eggshells should be added at 300 g-1 kg / 1 sq. m. area.

If there are not many shells, it can be poured under the roots of the tomatoes.

Calcium is necessary for tomatoes from the beginning of the growing season. Also, this element contributes to the formation and development of fruits.

Ca gives a good start to the development of cucumbers. Fertilizing is done after planting seedlings in the beds. During the period of intensive growth, calcium entering the soil from the shell promotes the development of roots, stems and leaves, and helps cucumbers withstand environmental influences.

Seedlings can be fed with infusion. The calcium-rich liquid accelerates seed germination, stimulates leaf development, metabolic processes and photosynthesis.

Root feeding of vegetable crops saturates the plants with calcium

Egg shells as fertilizer for fruit and berry crops

Garden fruit crops need calcium. Stone fruit trees: plum, cherry, bird cherry intensively use the reserves of this substance from the soil during the formation of the core of the fruit. This also applies to pome fruits: apple, pear, quince.

It is necessary to bring the shell under the fruit trees along the perimeter of the crowns, where the roots are.

Under the strawberries, crushed shells are poured as a protective layer against the appearance of weeds and the invasion of slugs, snails, or they are applied throughout the garden bed as part of the compost. Organic fertilization increases the fertility of the substrate.

Sandy and clayey soil requires organic additives to increase fertility.

How to fertilize garden flowers with eggshells

Egg fertilization contributes to the full development of garden flowers, makes their stems and leaves more powerful, and the flowers - large. Plants are watered with infusion of shells several times a month. For small bushes, take 1/2 glass of solution, larger ones - 0.5 liters each.

Feeding eggshells of ornamental plants

Ornamental plants are planted to decorate the garden. These can be flowers, shrubs and trees.

Light soil is an important condition for the full development of such flora representatives as:

  • lilac
  • hydrangea
  • rose hip
  • jasmine
  • forsythia.

These plants are planted and transplanted in spring or autumn. Coarsely ground egg shells are laid on the bottom of the wells, like drainage, or mixed with soil for better air access to the roots. Calcium fertilizer is also applied as part of humus.

The shell of chicken eggs has a positive effect on fruit trees, garden crops and ornamental plants

Vermicompost production

As we have already mentioned, vermicompost is produced with the help of special earthworms - namely, red Californian earthworms, specially bred in the USA in the middle of the twentieth century. Unlike the "wild" invertebrates we are accustomed to, they reproduce quickly, do not tend to crawl, and most importantly, they are extremely active and "efficient".

Any bioorganic waste is processed by these worms, followed by the release of coprolites into the soil, which are the form of organic matter most suitable for absorption by plants. In addition, worms make the soil looser, which provides optimal conditions for moisture.

Getting vermicompost at home is not a very difficult task. Therefore, if you want and have free time and space, you may well master the home production of vermicompost.

Worms for making vermicompost are sold in specialized stores, and besides them, you only need enough organic waste, boxes, or simply a place for a compost heap or pit.

Feeding methods

Berry bushes such as cherries, currants and gooseberries require annual ash fertilization. It is recommended to apply it dry, at the rate of 1 kg for each bush.

  1. The powder is deepened into the soil with a hoe. Beneficial trace elements will enter the root system when it rains.
  2. Strawberries are fed with a liquid composition: 2-3 handfuls of ash in a bucket of water. This is enough for 1 sq.m. area.
  3. Fruit crops need feeding with ash no less than berry crops. Fertilizer is applied dry, spreading over the entire projection of the crown. The soil in the near-trunk part must be dug up and loosened.

Vegetable plants are deficient in potassium during ovary and flowering. Wood ash can replenish it. Fertilize cucumbers, tomatoes and other vegetables when the first brushes appear. To do this, 2-3 tablespoons of ash are bred in a bucket of water, then each bush is fed.

Potatoes, like other root crops, are often sick with scab if they grow in acidic soil with an excess of nitrogen. The peel on the root crops is spreading, and the carrots have small shoots on the side, instead of one large root. As a prevention of this problem, it is necessary to use the same ash-water solution as for cucumbers with tomatoes.

Root crops are fertilized once every 2-3 weeks.
